in time for easter but sadly 18 years late.....

another one that got away - i recorded this for easter '93 and made about 10 copies - most of them went to pat ward's record shop and, like the 'official splosh tape' were taken by the west mercia constabulary [must've been a bunch of party nutters!] and were never seen again.

i guess some of the tracks on the first side might have later been christened 'trip-hop', there's some dubby stuff in there alongside some typical splosh bangers and some heavier tribal house plus some operatic woman wailing over an acid house track that i have no recollection of whatsoever!

this one starts off with the siren wailing of the dust brothers 'song to the siren' and includes west bam's legendary 'alarm clock'. also in there is overview's 'bring it back' - classic diy stuff, laurent garniers awesome remix of the suburban knights 'art or stalking' and an early leftfield outing 'feel the difference' by djum djum.

mix is crunchy in parts but weren't they all? happy easter! steve g.

the story behind this mix is jakko [not the chimp loving dead popstar but one of the instigators of the splosh! parties asked all the residents to record a mix.

mixes were recorded by neil macey, justin sparrey and myself.

jakko's instructions were that it should be a 'one take' job e.g. go home, insert c90 tape in recorder and mix until both sides of tape were done.

the tapes were then copied at a copying factory in birmingham with the intention of selling the tapes at parties, shops, etc, to generate funds for the splosh! soundsystem.

unfortunately, the west mercia constabulary stuck their hooters in and all the tapes were confiscated [amongst other things].

as far as i know only a few of the tapes ever made it out into the world.

my mix was recorded at the peak of my 'proggy acidic techno house' phase and shows how splosh! was not just a deep house outfit [regardless of what some might say].

i can't remember most of the track names but it does start with 3 versions of 'de niro' by the disco evangelists mixed together and includes 50hz by capricorn, 'pro-deux' by rob acid and brum's own 'all funked up' by mother [lee fisher] and it finishes with the acapella of 'confusion' by new order.

anyway, here it is, lumpy, crunchy and bumpy and apparently martin duffy's FAVOURITE EVER MIX BY ANYONE! i'm not worthy, i'm not worthy........
